For over two years artist Simon Fujiwara has been re-writing his parents’ life story as erotic fiction, taking their real-life oppression under the Franco dictatorship in Spain as the setting for his stories. In dialogue with his performances and installations, the texts have appeared in a range of publications from explicit gay erotica to critical journals and art catalogues. Whilst confronting taboos inherent in fusing family, politics and erotica, the stories re-create a lost sexual history that was brutally censored in his parent’s day. Fujiwara received his BA in Architecture from Cambridge University before going on to study fine art at Stadelschule, Frankfurt am Main. Recent and forthcoming exhibitions of his work include Home is the Place You Left, Museum of Contemporary Art, Trondheim, The Incest Museum, Royal College of Art, London, Impersonator, MAK Center, Los Angeles and Desk Job at the 53rd Venice Biennale. He is currently a resident on the MAK Schindler residency in Los Angeles.
