Spitting Video: The YouTube Curation (Mar 13)

Spitting Video is a thumbs up to the world of YouTube and all of its enthusiasm and diversity. Starting with a screening of the video “An anthropological introduction to YouTube”, created by Dr. Michael Wesch and presented at the Library of Congress. Welsh gives a poignant and thoroughly academic investigation of the website, while simultaneously using the video to spread his celebrity and bring eyes to his academic program at Kansas St. University.

Next Shade Falcon presents an hour of edited exposure to the largest single source of publically available moving pictures. Hyperlinking ideas about location, identity, “keywords”, star maps and maps of space; we will see if we can render the most divisive issues quaint through persistent recombination. Thought and Tag Clouds will occasionally give way to the physical stratocumulus variety. Memories are redrawn in legos and history is no longer written by the winners as it becomes a purely personal sensation. By the end of the hour we will delight in the shower of the new Babel tower, at the same time we turn off the power (chant x5).

Printed video descriptions and user comments will accompany and audience members will be asked to read these as well as comment themselves. A group discussion will follow.
