I’m waiting for your face —
The beginning of a world tour.

Busts: My Personal Winter is a solo exhibition by recent New York transplant Samara Golden. For its debut iteration at workspace, Golden will create a large-scale live video installation comprised of small sculptures of people with whom she discussed the concept of the piece. Drawing upon the artist’s interest in reversing the spectacle, and coming out of a critical ambivalence in relation to an unattainable yet pervasive notion of “success”, the resulting work gathers its form and momentum from itself. The actual materials in the installation are representative of an antiquated and curious conceptualization of femininity, pulling from notions of craftsmanship lost, and a romantic view of a pre-internet era. As a traveling sculpture on its first stop, Busts: My Personal Winter aims to be a work that is physically comprised of all the people who have ever looked at it. At its conclusion the piece will be a complex amalgamation, assembling artists, curators, and spectators from multiple locations into a single space.

Samara Golden received her MFA from Columbia University in 2009. Recently Golden has exhibited her work at the Sculpture Center (NYC), Renwick Gallery (NYC), Marvelli Gallery (NYC), Infernoesque (Berlin), and Ferenbalm-Gurbrü Station (Karlsrule, Germany). “Sugar”, a collaborative feature film she produced, co-wrote, and starred in was screened at Sundance in 2005. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
