Amir Nikravan’s Blue Narcissus, the artist’s first edition, extends the investigations of process that ground his ongoing project Internal. In this piece Nikravan utilizes the operation of the printing process itself as a way of constructing an image.

Like the myth in which Narcissus becomes transfixed by his own reflection in a pool of water, not realizing that his image is indeed himself doubled, Blue Narcissus performs the condition of self-reflection and spatial closure inherent in the process of Serigraphy. Using a sheet of malleable and fluid mirrored Mylar directly on the bed of a Serigraph printer, Blue Narcissus records the refractory light of the apparatus as it attempts to picture the semblance of an object whose image is defined solely through the reflections of its surrounding. The resulting image pictures the sustained tautology- a bracketed moment of spatial closure- between the elusive object and its reflexive double, turning the recording eye of the apparatus back onto itself.
